
About Kelly BarnesKelly Barnes, M.S, resides in the west suburbs of Chicago. She received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and her master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology from the University of North Texas (UNT). While pursuing her master's degree, Kelly was an active member of UNT's Center for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence, received training from four U.S. Olympic Committee Certified sport psychology consultants, provided sport psychology services to individuals and coaches, developed and presented mental training skills workshops, and conducted sport psychology research that she presented at the annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Conferences in 2000 and 2001.Subsequent to completing her master's degree, Kelly was one of two individuals nation-wide to be selected as a 2000-2001 Johannson-Gund Research Scholar at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. While completing this one-year sport psychology internship, Kelly developed mental training scripts for various sport athletes, developed and presented mental training workshops, taught sport psychology classes for the University of Minnesota, developed and conducted research in the areas of facial injuries in hockey, the 'yips' in golf, and intimidation in ice hockey. She also co-wrote a chapter on 'The Psychosocial Predictors of Injury' for the USA Boxing's Physicians Manual and consulted with the Rochester Mustangs Junior A, the St. Mary's women's, and the Augsburg men's ice hockey teams. Kelly is currently a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as AASP. She is in the process of completing the necessary requirements to become an AASP certified sport psychology consultant. She has recently worked as a sport psychology consultant for the 2006 University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) women's softball team, and the 2006 and 2007 Chicago Steel Junior A ice hockey team. She has consulted with athletes and teams from a variety of sports including: gymnastics, softball, baseball, ice hockey, tennis, golf, bull riding, figure skating, track, basketball, and volleyball.
